Stories from Quran about our Prophets are interesting enough to engage the attention of kids and grown ups alike. Many books are available about prophets for kids. I figured if I add some objects related to the story in a box with the story book, it will perhaps make it more interesting for the kids and even if they cannot read yet, when they see the related objects, they would remember at least some parts from the story.I started with the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. and came up with the following objects:
1. Sheep
Prophet Yusuf a.s 's brothers told their father that they wanted to take Yusuf a.s. with them as they would teach him to be a good shepherd. So I thought adding little sheep to the box made from cotton balls would be a good idea. To the cotton balls, black beans were glued for feet and ears with a hot glue gun. Two small googly eyes and a tiny pink pearl was glued for nose. I made about 10 little sheep for a herd.

2. Sun, Moon and Stars
Another object that was added were the sun, moon and stars, depicting the dream of Prophet Yusuf a.s. I used foam star stickers from Walmart. For sun and moon, I drew pictures on a white paper, applied glitter for the shiny look and laminated them.

3. Little dolls; Yusuf a.s and his brothers
Yusuf a.s and his brother dolls were made using wooden beads for their heads, little pieces of felt for clothing and a cord for arms and legs. Using a fine felt pen, face and hair were drawn. I used blue felt for all the brothers and beige for Yusuf a.s to make him stand out among all. Two pieces were used for each doll and were glued together.

4. Yusuf a.s.'s shirt
We know that Yusuf a.s's brothers brought back Yusuf's shirt stained with sheep's blood. They lied to their father that Yusuf a.s was attacked by a wolf. I used beige colored felt to make a small shirt and put some drops of red food coloring.

5. Well
This, I thought was the most important object for the story. Using a tin can and lots of Popsicle sticks, it came out really cute.

Finally, when the objects were complete, the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. from al-islam.org was printed into a booklet and added to the box.

I used a shoe size storage box with lid from the local dollar store to store the book and the props.
